There has been a lot of questions regarding the official JAMB subject combination for Civil Engineering Technology, and today, I’ll be providing you with answers to these questions, including:
“What subjects are needed for Civil Engineering in jamb?”
“What is the O level requirements for Civil Engineering?”
“What are the four subjects in jamb for engineering?”
“Must I pass Math before I can study civil engineering in the University”?
On this page, I’ll be sharing with you, the complete Civil Engineering JAMB combination, including Civil engineering Admission admission requirements, the correct O’level, Waec Subject combination for Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Direct entry requirement through JAMB, JUPEB, and IJMB.
The good thing about a subject combination, either JAMB or Waec, is that it is the same for all Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria. This means that no matter the higher institution you are applying for admission into, (UNIBEN, OKOPOLY, UI, UNIPORT, MOUAU, FUTO, UNILAG, DELSU etc.) you can always use the same subject combination. For your O’level qualification, you need to have at least, a pass to be eligible for admission to study Civil Engineering in Nigeria.

O’level Subject Requirements For Civil Engineering.
To study Computer Engineering in Nigeria, according to the JAMB brochure, you MUST have at least, a minimum of five (5) credits in your O’ level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) core courses. Likewise, you also need to select four (4) subjects in JAMB, and score up to your selected institution’s cut off mark for admission.
What Are The Subjects Required To Study Civil Engineering?.
- Mathematics,
- English Language,
- Physics,
- Chemistry,
- Biology*.
The above listed subjects may likely not be needed in some cases (JAMB or O’level). However, I’ll be showing you in certain cases, where the above subjects plays a vita role in getting you admitted to study Civil Engineering in Nigeria.
Physics and Chemistry: These subjects, Physics and Chemistry are mandatory and very important for your O’ level exams like WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE. This means that you need to have at least, a pass in your O’level result for both Chemistry and Physics.
Biology: However, for JAMB you will not select Biology among the four required subjects. This is to say, that Biology is not required in JAMB to study Civil Engineering but it may or may not be included in your O’ level.
However, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are the more important subjects for you as a Civil Engineering student, because they are all important and required for both JAMB and your O’ level, if you must study Civil Engineering in any Nigerian institution.
JAMB and Waec Subjects to study Civil Engineering.
These are the FOUR major subjects needed in JAMB, the correct JAMB subject combination for Civil engineering. (Take note that JAMB has made it mandatory that all candidates must write the JAMB Use of English, irrespective of the course you intend to study).
- Use of English,
- Physics,
- Mathematics,
- Chemistry.
O’Level Subject Combination For Civil Engineering.
When we say O’level subject combinations, what it means is that these are the subjects needed for your admission to be considered. Although unlike JAMB, the minimum number of subjects in O’level examinations are Eight subjects (8) and a maximum of nine (9), out of this Nine or Eight subjects, five (5) are core subjects specific for the course you wish to study which in this case is Civil Engineering.
In WAEC, core subjects to study Civil Engineering are…
- Physics.
- Chemistry.
- Mathematics.
- English Language.
- and any other science subject of your choice.
- You can choose any three (3) or four (4) subjects that you scored high in, or if you are yet to write your WAEC, you can pick any subject you are good in, so you can have higher score.
As I’ve earlier stated, the Civil Engineering subject combination for Waec is applicable for all O’ level exams, such as NECO, NABTEB etc.
