Petroleum Engineering Admission Requirements.

This section is important to all applicants/candidates seeking admission into any higher institution in Nigeria. Make sure that your JAMB result (score), Post UTME score, and WAEC grade are good, especially for the Petroleum Engineering subjects combinations (O’level grades).

One reason why admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions are getting more difficult is because of the high number of candidates seeking admission and 2, their admission calculation method.

Now, most academic institutions in Nigeria calculates your O’level results (either Waec, NECO, GCE), your JAMB score and Post UTME score, to determine whether you’re eligible for admission into that particular course or not. When all these are calculated, the aggregate score is what determines whether you are eligible for admission to study this Engineering course.

However, one undisputable fact is that candidates who got their O’level result (Waec, Neco, GCE) in one sitting do have better opportunity of being admitted into their chosen institution to study Petroleum engineering, than candidates who are using two sittings (Combination of either two Waec results, Neco, or GCE result).

It is mandatory to note here that all candidates seeking admission into any Accredited higher institution to study Petroleum Engineering should have at least, five (5) credit passes in the above mentioned/listed subjects. These are the major subjects required by higher institution before you can be offered admission.

Also take note that you can use any of these examination results, e.g NECO, GCE and WAEC to get admitted into your school of choice (the higher institution you selected during your JAMB registration) to study Petroleum Engineering.

The above three mentioned/listed subjects are the official JAMB brochure approved subject combination for this course. If you are seeking admission through UTME, during your JAMB registration, since the USE of English is mandatory in JAMB, you MUST choose three other subjects related to your choice.

Take note that if you select the wrong JAMB subject combinations for your course and scored 400 in JAMB, you won’t be offered admission into that particular course, the best offer, will be that you’ll be offered another course in conjunction with the subject combination you made during your JAMB registration. So ensure you choose the right subject combination.

JAMB cut-off mark for Petroleum Engineering.

180.

Depending on the higher institution (University/polytechnic) you choose during your JAMB registration, but most higher institutions offering Petroleum Engineering peg their cut off point at 180 for this course.

However, it is advisable that you score at the very least, 200+ in your JAMB to stand a better chance of getting admitted.

Special consideration and Waiver for Schools Offering Petroleum Engineering.

IBADAN and FUTO – Same as in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.

NDU requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics and any other subject in not more than 2 sittings.

NTNU – Same as in Computer Engineering.

UNIBEN – Same as in Chemical Engineering.

UNILAG and OSUSTECH require an ‘O’ level credit pass in Further Mathematics.

Petroleum Engineering Direct Entry Requirements.

This section is for candidates seeking admission into any NUC accredited institution offering Petroleum Engineering, but not through UTME or its equivalent. Here are the Direct Entry Requirement for Petroleum Engineering:

• All Direct Entry (DE) candidates are required to have ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

WAIVER / SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.

ABUAD, OSUSTECH, UNIBEN, FUTO – As in Chemical Engineering.

BAUCHI accepts ND/HND in related Engineering programmes in addition to UTME requirements.

IGBINEDION accepts 2 ‘A’ level passes in the following Physics in addition to one (1) of Chemistry and Mathematics. They also accept ND in Engineering related programmes.

NTNU – Same as in Computer Engineering.

RSUST –  Same as in Computer Engineering.

UNIPORT – They don’t offer direct entry for this course.

UNILAG – The same as in Chemical Engineering.

UI and NDU – As in Agricultural Engineering.

UNIUYO accepts ND/HND in relevant programmes in addition to UTME requirements.
