Computer Science and Information Science O’Level and JAMB Subject Combination

One of the rare courses hardly mentioned among Nigerian students, Computer Science and Information Science has great potential for graduates of this course. Before talking about graduating and degree-awarding, let’s talk about getting admitted to study Computer science and information science, accreditated Universities to study this course, and the Computer Science and Information Science O’level and UTME subjects combination.

There’s a difference between Computer Science and Information Science and Computer science as a course in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Take note that the same subject combination and O’level requirement is the same for all universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education offering (Computer Science and Information Science) this course, except for a few universities with special waivers.

Why Using Correct Subject Combination is Important.

Most Nigerian students are not aware that using the wrong subject combination for your course will certainly COST you admission in that particular course. This is why you’ll hear stories like: “I scored 300 in JAMB, and I want not offered admission into that “course”, whereas someone score 160 and got the same course in the same university”.

The truth is that the person who scored 300 in JAMB may have chosen the wrong subject combinations for that course, and it’s highly unlikely for JAMB or the institution to offer you admission into that particular course. Making use of the correct and approved O’Level and JAMB subject requirements for Computer Science and Information Science makes the admission process much easier, especially for you. Because after sitting for JAMB that particular year, you can’t change to another subject, till the next year when you’ll need to re-chose the correct subjects for your course.

This particular course “Computer Science and Information Science” is a course for science-inclined students in secondary schools and it is one of the most sought-after courses in countries where science and innovations strive, especially first world countries like the UK, France, Germany, Australia, China, etc.

This page, although it’s 100% covering this topic, Computer science and Information science, I will not just concentrate on the O’level subjects required to study Computer Science and Information Science or the list of universities in Nigeria offering this course.

O’LEVEL SUBJECTS COMBINATION AND REQUIREMENTS.

This are the o’level correct subjects combination for studying Computer science and Information science. When we say o’level, I mean Waec, Neco, GCE, etc.

Studying Computer Science and Information Science in any Nigerian University or Polytechnic requires that you possess the following:

  • You must have obtained a minimum of five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, and Physics plus two (2) other Science subjects.

UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION.

These are the Subjects you MUST CHOOSE during your UTME/JAMB registration. For candidates who are not aware, the Use of English is compulsory, and it is mandatory that all candidates select 4 subjects. Since the Use of English is mandatory and already selected, you can ONLY add three subjects.

  • Mathematics,
  • Physics,
  • and any of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics, or Geography.

CUT OFF MARK FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION SCIENCE.

This course cut off mark usually rotates around 180 – 200. However, the cut off mark usually depends on the school’s general cut off mark. I’ll advise all prospective candidates seeking admission to study Computer science and Information science to score 180, or 200 and above to be on the safer side.

You should also know that you need to pass the school’s Post UTME screening (if they’ll be writing it that year), to be gianfully admitted and study this course.
