Federal Government Approves Six (6) New Federal Colleges Of Education to battle Admission Crisis

It is no secret that the Nigerian population is ever on the increase, and this goes for education too. As you can see, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) records the highest numbers of registered candidates.

Yet, Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria are not equipped to carry these candidates.

In 2020, JAMB recorded 2.1 million registered candidates who will be sitting for the examination. Nigeria’s Federal government, in a bid to increase the number of quality of teachers in the country, has approved the establishment and immediate take-off of new six Federal Colleges of Education in each of the geo-political zone in the country.

Speaking on this development, the public relations officer of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, Mr. Ameh Isaac, disclosed that the newly approved institutions would be situated in the following states where there is no presence of Federal Colleges of Education. These states include:

• Bauchi,
• Benue,
• Ebonyi,
• Osun,
• Sokoto,
• Edo states.

Mr. Ameh further disclosed that details on the take-off of these new institutions would be made public through the committee which has already been set up by the Federal Ministry of Education. This committee will be chaired by the Permanent Secretary of Education.

Appreciating this development, the Executive Secretary of National Commission for Colleges of Education, Bappa-Aliyu Muhammadu, commended the federal government for its effort in establishing additional Federal Colleges of Education in all the six geo-political zones in the country to curb admission crisis the country is currently experiencing.

In addition, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, disclosed that the newly approved colleges would not only create more job opportunities for qualified Nigerians but would also improve the standard of education and increase quality teachers in the country.

Bappa-Aliyu however, appealed to the host communities where the institutions will be sited to give maximum supports that will help the federal government contractors have a smooth take-off of the institutions.
