YES!!! January 18th Remain the OFFICIAL Nigerian Schools Resumption Date

Breaking news reaching us today is that the Nigerian Government has officially stated that there is no going back on the January 18th, 2021 resumption date for schools within the country.

Readers of Dailyschoolnews Nigeria will notice that within the previous weeks, there have been various articles on whether schools will be resuming on the 18th of January or not.

The President Task Force on COVID-19 disclosed that they’re waiting for the federal government confirmation whether schools will be resuming on the 18th or not. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced that the government was reviewing the January 18 date due to the increasing numbers of confirmed COVID19 cases in the country. Which has more than a thousand daily cases reported.

However, a statement released by Ben Bem Goong, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education today, being the 14th of January, disclosed that the Minister after reaching a consensus with Governors, Commissioners, and other stakeholders in the education sector, has agreed that it was okay that the schools should be re-opened and academic activities commence immediately.

The spokesperson further disclosed that all schools are expected to comply with COVID-19 protocols, especially strict adherence to non-pharmaceutical procedures liked wearing of face masks, social distancing, and others.

The COVID-19 Protocols For Nigerian Students Resuming Includes:

1. Federal government has made it mandatory that all students, teachers, and workers must wear Facemasks.
2. Temperature checks and handwashing facilities must be placed at strategic locations in all schools.
3. Ensuring a constant supply of water and sanitizers within all Nigerian schools environment.
4. Enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days.
5. Schools should avoid overcrowding, including limitations in class sizes and hostel occupancy till further notice.
6. Availability of functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation of suspected cases to medical facilities.
7. Compulsory adherence to all other non-pharmaceutical protocols, restrictions, and containment measures as may be prescribed/ approved by the PTF from time to time.
