jamb statistics 2020

After the pandemic, things are going back to the pre-pandemic era, and thank God that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had conducted her examination before the lockdown started.

The JAMB authorities have released names of the best candidates in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME). These names were released by JAMB and obtained by Dailyschoolnews Nigeria. These extremely brilliant candidates (permit me to call them geniuses), scored between 352 and 365 in their UTME, which automatically makes them the highest scorer in the 2020 UTME.

However, one state stood out among others, as two candidates from Anambra State outshone others scoring 365 and 363 respectively.

The third on this list is a candidate who hails from Edo State, who scored 359, while two candidates from Ekiti state made the list on the fourth and fifth positions, scoring 358 and 356 respectively.

Another state with more than one indigene in this list of top 10 best UTME candidates in 2020 is Delta state. Two candidates who hail from Delta state scored 359 and 352 respectively.

Other states that appeared on the list are as follows:

  • Ekiti state,
  • Ondo state,
  • Akwa Ibom state,
  • Kwara state,
  • Oyo state,
  • Ogun state.

Out of the 13 (thirteen) candidates who made this list, there are tiers, as two candidates scored 359, and another two scored 355, while four candidates scored 352.

“They are 10 in number and if you notice, some of the candidates scored the same mark and they are (tied) on the same position”.

One outstanding pattern which we noticed here is that all these candidates with highest UTME scores applied to study engineering courses, ranging from Industrial Production, Mechanical, Civil, Computer to Electrical Engineering.

Four of these geniuses applied for admission into the University of Lagos (Unilag), whereas two applied for admission to study at the following institutions: Covenant University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and University of Ilorin. One will go to Kwara State University.

Finally, you’ll recall that the 2020 UTME examination commenced on the 14th of March, and ended March 21st, 2020. It was held in various accredited JAMB CBT centers nationwide.

According to statistics released by the JAMB board, a total number of 1,949,983 candidates wrote the 2020 UTME examination.
