Today, the Board of Regents, Covenant University’s apex governing body, has finally appointed Professor Charles Ayo as her third substantive vice-chancellor.
Covenant University, for the first time, also went further to appointed Dr. Taiwo Abioye and Dr. Aaron Atayero, as Deputy Vice-Chancellors for Administration and Academics respectively.
This appointment Of the Deputy Vice chancellor for Administration and Academics in Covenant University was however, made public at the Chancellor’s Dinner, which was organised to celebrate the 10th Founder’s Day anniversary of Covenant University.
The Former Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Aize Obayan, who was the second substantive Vice Chancellor, between February 1, 2005 and October 31, 2012, in her speech, said that the engine room of Covenant university was the vision and advised the new vice-chancellor to always have the vision at heart in order to run with it smoothly.
Obayan whose tenure attracted over 68 awards, plus other numerous linkages with world-class institutions, among other feats, used the platform to appreciated everyone who had worked hard to make her tenure a resounding success.
The Vice Chancellor, Ayo, in his response, described the former VC as an epitome of simplicity with finesse for excellence and a heart full of Love.
The Newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Ayo also said that the Former Vc personality had demystified university administration, adding that she triumphed where many men had woefully failed.
According to the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, the Ex-Vc has proved that success is not by gender or by Age.
Newly Appointed Vice Chancellor, Ayo had joined the university in September 2003 as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer and Information Science.
And as a Senior Fulbright Scholar, he has served in various capacities including the following:
1. Director.
2. Academic Planning Unit.
3. Chair.
4. Quality and Academic Standards Committee (2008-Date),
5. Chair and Convocation Planning Committee 2007, 2009 and To 2010.
Ayo had also served in other units and has proved beyond doubt that he’s the Man for the Job.
Not until his appointment, he was the Head of Department, Computer and Information Sciences.
However, Prof. Ayo is a member of many professional bodies as mentioned below.
1. The Nigerian Computer Society.
2. Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria.
3. Microsoft Certified Professionals.
4. Cisco Certified Network Associate.
Professor Ayo’s research interests include the following:
1. e-Government.
2. e-Business.
3. Mobile computing, and others.
Professor Ayo has produced:
Nine PhDs,
25 M.Sc candidates.
More than over 85 MBA candidates,
over 55 postgraduate diploma candidates.
More 160 B.Sc candidates.
The Deputy VC Administration joined the university in October 2005 and has served in various capacities.
She is the Secretary, Executive Boardof ISA-RC25: Language and Society. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of Language, Discourse and Society.
She is also a member of several professional bodies like:
1. International Reading Association.
2. International Sociological Association.
3. Nigeria English Studies Association.
4. Associate Professor of English Language.
Phe was also the Acting Head, Department of Languages before her appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration.
She was the Chairperson, Convocation Planning Committee in 2008.
Atayero on the other hand is one of the pioneer staff of the university.
Professor Ayo did joined the university as a lecturer II in 2002, and he worked in the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering.
A recipient of Ford Foundation Teaching Innovative Award, 2009/2010 for Demonstrative Innovative Approach to Teaching, Research and Mentoring of Junior Academics, Professor Atayero was at different times the acting Head, Department of Electrical and Information Engineering and a lead Researcher, EIE Biometrics Research Cluster.
Professor Ayo is also a member of many professional bodies like:
1. Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.
2. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
3. International Association of Engineers.
4. World Academy of Science Engineering and Technology.
5. International Who’s Who Historical Society.
