Although BUK has a very huge admission capacity, it does not have the available resources to accept all candidates seeking admission into the institution. Thousands of applicants apply for admission into BUK, but just a few are admitted, based on their JAMB score and Post UTME screening.
One major reason why Most candidates are not admitted into BUK is their inability to reach or better still, score higher than the Bayero University Kano cut off mark set by the school authorities and UTME.
Sadly, if you didn’t meet up with the BUK cut off mark, you won’t be offered admission.
For candidates who selected Bayero University, Kano as their first choice during their JAMB Registration, and scored 180 and above, you’re qualified for BUK screening.

BUK Cut off Mark for all Departments.
The general cut off mark for BUK is 180, which is in agreement with the official cut off marks for all Universities in Nigeria, set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and University authorities.
Although if you scored 180 in your JAMB, the Bayero University, Kano automatically qualifies you to register and participate in their annual post UTME screening exercise.
To ensure you seal your BUK admission, here are the recommended cut off Marks for these faculties.
- Medicine & Pharmacy Faculties: We recommend a JAMB score of 250 and above.
- Law and Engineering courses: Score 230 and above in JAMB to secure admission in these courses.
- Science (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Geology, etc.): 200 and above is attainable and recommended.
- Art (Mass communication, English Studies, etc.): We advise you score not less than 200 in JAMB.
- Other Departments: For other departments not listed here, a JAMB score of 180 and above is recommended.
How Do BUK Calculates Aggregate for Admissions?
The Bayero University, Kano admission board calculates each candidate/applicant’s aggregate score by adding their UTME score with the Post UTME score. Your JAMB and Post UTME score is the sole factors that will determine your admission fate, including using the perfect Subject Combinations for your course.
When selecting candidates for admission, the BUK admission board choose candidates with the highest scores for admission, and this means that the higher your JAMB / Post UTME score, the higher your chance of getting admitted.
Finally, you should know that reaching the BUK cut off mark doesn’t guarantee admission. Scoring the exact cut off point does not mean you’ll be admitted. Rather, your admission status depends on the performance of other candidates who chose the same course as you.
For example, if your choice is Medicine and you scored 250, But hundreds of other candidates who selected the same course (Medicine) have higher scores, you may not be admitted into BUK.
