Latest news reaching our educational news desk is that as the power tussle continues on who becomes next Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), located in Port Harcourt assumed violent dimension yesterday when Dr. Felix Igwe, branch Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, widely known as Asuu, was seriously reportedly brutalised, which really need first aid before pushing him to the hospital.
The Asuu leader who has been leading the union on a collision with the RSUST school management is said to be receiving medical attention right now, at an undisclosed hospital, since his assailants were still unknown and are roaming large.
The Asuu Boss, after he has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital, was battered by an assailants, these assailants were suspected to be security operatives at a congress of the union on the university campus.
The assualt on Asuu Boss, Dr. Igwe took place four days into the on going strike by members of the union in resentment of the appointment of the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Barikeme Fakae as Acting Vice Chancellor, Condemning the attack, human rights lawyer, Mr. Ken Atsuete, has called for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault on the university Vice Chancellor.
Mr. Atsueke who described the attack on the Asuu leader as dastardly and barbaric assumed that the masterminds behind the attack on the Assu Boss may not be far away from the university authorities
Calling on major parties in the leadership crisis which is currently rocking the university, to shun violence in advancing their interests.

The strike by the RSUST ASUU body, are demanding that the Governor of Rivers State, Honorable Rotimi Amaechi to nullify his appointment of Prof. Fakae as Acting Vice Chancellor has paralysed academic activities in the university since this week, starting from Monday the 13th.
We would love to recalled you back to what happen, that is when the university Public Relations Officer, Mr. Desmond Nwosu had earlier discredited the strike as amounting to dereliction of duty by the lecturerson ground that the school authorities were not pre-informed, a position Dr.Igwe refuted.
