LATEST news reaching our news desk today, is that the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (lautech) ASUU chapter has disclosed that they would commence on a strike if the school fails to pay their salaries.
However, this is really sad, not at the time that aspirants are about to write the 2015 lautech post utme screening exercise. It’s the worst timing.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) chapter has just sent a direct message to the Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi and his Osun state counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola, requesting the governors to pay their outstanding 13 months salaries which the statement governments owed them without any further delay, or else, they will embark on an indefinite strike.
THE general public should note that the union threatened an industrial action, if the workers’ arrears of salaries is not paid by the states government.
The Asuu union management has stated that her members are really struggling to survive and nobody is ready to give them loan to meet up to their basic needs, which includes their fuel, feeding fees and normal living necessity.
THE LAUTECH Asuu chairman, Dr Oyebamiji Oyegoke disclosed this information when he was addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday, the 21st of July.
Dr Oyebamiji Oyegoke also went on to say, that the academic institution workers are now facing untold hardship because of their unpaid salaries which has ran into a year and 30 days, which is 13 Months now.
Dr Oyebamiji Oyegoke also went on to disclose that it has became crucial and vital that for the union to call out in view of the Bail-out being granted to states by the federal government, which Oyo state and Osun state are beneficiaries.
The union leader did not stop there, as he went on to call on the state governments to use the Bail-out funds to boost the lives of her civic workers. He also demanded that the state governors start paying her workers salaries fees on a regular basic.
Saying that his above statement is correct and the government can do this with the monthly government subventions and not from internally generated revenue which is meant to be used for other welfare and development projects.
Dr Oyegoke stated this and we quote him directly:
“Lautech is owned by two states, and these states jointly owe the university workers 1 year and 31 days salaries, and this salary will force the university to keep the system running via financial interventions.”
According to the ASUU leadership, the Oyo and Osun governments respectively have abandoned their responsibilities of providing Monetary support for the school as expected, whether it be capital or recurrent. You should be aware, that most universities workers have used such motives as strike actions to demand for their rights from the government both federal and state, and most times, it works or they probably will go on with their promises.
We just hope that this issue is resolved and the government will pay the salaries of the Lautech university workers.
