49,000 Candidates Seek Admission Into Federal Polytechnics Oko For 2013/2014

It’s alarming that there’s no money in Nigeria (poor mentality) yet, no fewer than 49,000 persons applied to study various courses at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra in the 2013/2014 academic session.

This information was shared to us today, by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the academic institution, Mr Obini Onuchukwu, who told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Oko, on Thursday, the 5th of March, that 25,000 actually took part in its post universal tertiary matriculation examination.

However, he disclosed this and we would share it with you “Unfortunately, the institution has the capacity to offer admission to less than 5,000 students,” Onuchukwu said.

He also went further to say that the number of applicants did not stop there, as it continuously rose to 45,000 in the 2012/2013 academic session to the current figure.

According to him, the development is an indication that the institution is on a steady growth.

The Okopoly spokesperson urged the federal government to increase the capacity of the polytechnic to accommodate more students willing to study there.

“We are asking the government not only to increase the carrying capacity of students’ admission but to also grant us a status of university because we know we are ready for a smooth take-off.

“The academic institution is currently covering not less than 30 doctorate degree holders and not less than 100 Masters’ degree holders undergoing one course or the other within and overseas,” he said to Journalists.
