Latest information reaching our news desk today is that the VERITAS University, which is situated in Bwari, FCT Abuja, has shut down all forms of academic activities within its walls, following the worsening cases of insecurity in the Nigeria capital, FCT Abuja.
The sudden and hasten closure of the Roman Catholic-owned institution, was simply because of the security reports indicating that terrorists could attack and abduct students of this academic institution, after a foiled attempt at the Nigerian Law School, which is just a few kilometres apart.
The new academic session for Veritas University has already been fixed to begin in September but had been put on hold following threats to the institution.
The worst of it all is that the newly admitted students (100L) examination which was billed to commence this week, has been suspended indefinitely. The institution management disclosed that the examination would be “conducted at a date to be announced.”
The institution management had said in a statement, released on Wednesday, disclosed that they’ve concluded academic activities hence the closure, it was not difficult to figure out that this sudden development is not unconnected with security threats received by the school and security agencies within the Nigerian state capital.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Veritas University, Evelyn Obekpa, confirmed in a terse statement, Wednesday, saying, and I quote below:
“The Management of Veritas University wishes to notify the general public that the University has successfully completed the 2021/2022 academic session.
“However, due to the current security tension experienced by FCT Abuja residents and environs, there’s a new directives of the Minister of the FCT for the closure of schools in Abuja, also disclosing that examinations for the 100 level students shall be conducted at a date to be announced later.”
The statement advises candidates seeking admission into the institution, to visit the school’s official website www.veritas.edu.ng to obtain an admission form. All correspondences may be forwarded to the following emails”.
