There has been lots of news about #ASUU_Strike, but Dailyschoolnews shares only authentic news about the ongoing industrial strike action taken by the Union.

Latest news reaching us today is that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, are likely to suspend its ongoing industrial action as soon as Monday, May 16th, 2022, due to pressure from the federal government.

A member of the union, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the striking lecturers are currently considering suspending the three months strike and fully resuming academic activities.

asuu may bow to pressure

The ASUU member who pleaded anonymity disclosed that even though the suspension may last for just three months, saying that negotiations with the Federal Government would continue during the grace period.

However, the anonymous ASUU member further disclosed that the failure of the Nigerian government to meet the demands of ASUU within the three months would lead to an indefinite strike as never seen before in Nigeria.

This decision by ASUU is coming a few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari appealed to the union to consider the suffering of students and call off the strike.

The Academic staff union of Universities commenced a warning strike on February 14th, because of the Federal Government’s inability to meet its demands and implement some agreements the two parties agreed on few years ago (2020).

The industrial action taken by ASUU took a turn for the worst when on May 9th, ASUU extended its strike action by another 12 weeks, which is expected to elapse on August 9th.
