ASUP Strike 2014: Polytechnic Lecturers Agreed that The Strike Will Not Be Called Off Today, 12th June, 2014

Latest educational news reaching our news desk today, is that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has agreed that the strike will not be called off today, being the 12th of June 2014.

The ASUP union went on to dismissed speculations that the union is calling off its strike today, saying “That we have no plan for calling off the strike and that there was no plan to call off the strike on Thursday June 12.”

According to the ASUP National President of the union, Mr Chibuzo Asomugha told writer on phone yesterday this and we decided to quote him here:

“I don’t know about calling off of our strike today. We are just have our emergency NEC meeting on Thursday June 12 and maybe that is where the rumours emanated.”

Important Notice

We would love to inform you that the polytechnics lecturers have been on strike since the 4th of October, 2013, and are demanding for the following:

  1. Constitution of the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics,
  2. The migration of the lower cadres on the CONTISS 15 salary scale,
  3. The release of the White Paper on the visitations to Federal Polytechnics,
  4. The need for the commencement of the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Polytechnics.

He also went on to disclosed and we quote him directly: “We don’t have any plan to call off the strike until all our demands are fulfilled by the federal government.

Asomugha however said the executives of the union are to meet with government delegation on June 24, stressing that tomorrow’s been purely ASUP’s business.

We should note here that there has been several meeting which are earlier held between the Polytechnics striking lecturers and federal government delegation led by the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike but all ended in deadlocks.
