This is certainly good news to all students whose polytechnic have not yet pulled out of the current on-going strike. The outcome of the student delegation, which was led by NAPS senate president has yield positive results.
The meeting between the NAPS senate president and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), was held in Abuja, yesterday, been the 4th of June 2014.
After several hours of deliberation and appraisal of the struggle so far, and the PAINs and the GAINs, the ASUP leadership acknowledge the frantic effort of the National Assembly both REPS and the SENATE.
The ASUP leadership also went on to revealed and also give their assurance of the senate committee on education chaired by sen. Chukwumereje to personally take the issue to the president GOODLUCK JONATHAN all in effort to ensure lasting solution to the ongoing face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP to an end.
Meanwhile the zealous petition for the suspension of the strike was placed before the ASUP management board on behalf of the entire Student Union Government (SUG) presidents of the affected polytechnics by the senate president with the sense of giving the FG another benefit of doubt as they have shown readiness to attend to the demand of the striking lecturers, but only demanding for more time while students returns to class room to continue their learnings.
The ASUP authorities also went on to ascertain that her NEC Meeting shall be hold by next week while the appeal by the SUG/NAP shall be table before the NEC council for consideration and possible solution to the problem.
The NAPS Senate president said and we quote “I hereby implore students to be more patience as we are very sure from all indications that the END is here already for the ASUP STRIKE.”
“I commend all SUG presidents, students and the general public for their support so far as we assure you all of best representation at all level.”
