Latest information reaching our news desk today, is that the Workers at the Federal Polytechnic, Ekeowe in Bayelsa State, have come to agreement that the workers would embark on warning strike today over outstanding promotions.
These workers, which comprises of the following:
* Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics,(ASUP)
* Senior Staff Association in Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANP)
* Non Academic Staff Union (NASU)
had been lamenting for sometimes now that the staff promotions have been withheld since 2013.
While speaking on this issue, the chairman of ASUP at Ekeowe Polytechnic, Mr Afolabi Taiwo, disclosed this in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State yesterday that the unions decided to issue the strike notice at the end of an emergency meeting on Tuesday.
The Chairman also went on to disclose that the refusal of the governing council of the polytechnic to approve the backlog of promotion has dampened staff morale and has also weaken their urge to better themselves.
The communique, which was signed by representatives of the three unions, which i mentioned above, lamented that the Federal polytechnic was yet to commence academic activities five weeks after the suspension of ASUP nationwide strike.
The communiqué was signed by Mr Afolabi Taiwo, Chairman of ASUP, Mr Endurance Keyamo, Chairman, SSANIP and Mr Nelson Ebimie, Chairman, NASU among others.
