COEASU Strike: ASUP, COEASU Strike Will Soon Be Called Off—FG

It’s time the federal government speak to Polytechnics students and College of education students regarding their school strikes respectively.

THE Federal government has come out to assured the public that the concerted efforts are being made to break the logjam between members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and the federal government.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr Macjohn Nwaobiala, who spoke in Abuja on Wednesday regarding the strike, disclosed that the federal government had adopted different approaches to end the protracted strikes.

He also went on to say that the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives had also intervened at various levels to help put an end to stop the strike.

The Ministry of Education, Nwaobiala also went on to expressed optimism that going by what was on ground, the ASUP strike and COEASU strike would be called off as soon as possible.

The permanent secretary also went on to revealed that the federal government has gone far in the bid to resolve the issue of dichotomy between the Higher National Diploma (HND) holders and first degree holders.

He disclosed that the committee set up by the Federal Government to look into the issue had submitted its report to the government.

The Minister also went on to say and we quote him: “Different approaches have been adopted to end the strike and one will surely click, which will help the federal government call of the strike.

The Senate and the House of Representatives are inter-facing with the Ministry of Education and the labour, and I hope the strike will be called off as soon as possible.

When our correspondent asked the Minister about Dichotomy, he said this: “On the issue of dichotomy, we have gone far with the work and hopeful that it will be positive. We have submitted the report to the federal government and we hope it will go a long way to assuage the unions.”

We just hope that everything works out fine between the federal government and ASUP union.
