ASUP Ask Polytechnics Not Participating in Strike TO Join them Or Face Disciplinary Action

According to information reaching us today, the Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP), irked by federal government’s attitude towards negotiation for a settlement, has resolved to continue with the current strike action and went forward to ask other polytechnics which are not participating in the strike to join force with them to better polytechnics results in Nigeria.

While speaking at a press conference which was held in Yola, the National President of the Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Chibuzo B. Asomugha who was represented by the National Publicity Secretary, Clement Chirman said the union had directed all chapters that did not join the strike to do so or face disciplinary action from the body.

The national president also decried that the failure by federal government to respect the very agreements which it has reached with the Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP), despite the role polytechnics have been playing in training of technical manpower for the country.

The President also went further to lamented that the indifference which is currently being exhibited by the Federal Government does not speak well for the leaders.

“The attitudes of government is a clear indication of the estimation in which government holds polytechnic education, a perceptions that acerbated the discrimination and marginalization of the sector and its graduates by both the public and private sector of the economy,” he said.

The National president also went forward to argued that solution to Nigeria’s quest for qualified technical manpower lies with the polytechnic education which served as bedrock for economic development in developed countries.

Chirman also added that the federal government should support Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in ensuring the overhaul of polytechnics to meet current challenges.

“We make bold to say that the critical state of the polytechnic sector today has significantly been encouraged by government’s attitude and approach to issues concerning it,” he said.

The president also ask the general public to support the Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP) cause so as to better polytechnics education in Nigeria.
