Are you aware of the drastic step which has been taken by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (jamb) ?
Well, it seems it another problem altogether for all candidates who sat for the 2015 JAMB CBT exercise and who are about writing their POST UTME exercise.
This move by the JAMB board was totally voted against by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who disclosed that this new policy which is adopted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is against the rights of the students.
The main question that we are all asking is this: WHY will JAMB re-assigns Students from their chosen School to a private Institution?
Can the fee of a public Varsity and a Private University in Nigeria be comparable? We would love to weight our thoughts on this issue, but we’re waiting to jamb replies the aggrieve students and parents why the choose to do this in 2015 post utme screening exercise.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is accusing JAMB that this new policy is completely fraudulent.
Let’s give you, the complete details on how this jamb re-assigning of students started:
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB recently made a public declaration on the adoption of a policy, and here’s how this works:
How THE New JAMB Policy For POST UTME Students Of 2015 Session Works
ALL candidates who chooses universities with excess applicants for the Unified Matriculation Examinations (UTME) are redistributed to other universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities. One reason why students are protesting about this policy, is that several Private Universities in Nigeria don’t reach up to their quota given to them.
Please take note that this new policy was adopted during the 2015 Combined Policy Meeting of JAMB that was held on July 14, 2015, in Abuja, where the JAMB officials, with Nigeria Educational sector leaders and Academic institution met to decide on the cut off marks for all Nigeria Universities, Polytechnics and college of education for the 2015 Session.
However, this did not go down well with NANS, South-West Zone D who has has severally kicked against this new development, saying that this policy by JAMB is purely fraudulent and that the board must have been paid by some Private Universities to implement this law.
In a statement which was issued by the General Secretary, NANS Zone D, Obanobi Bidemi, the apex students body discloses this and we quote them below:
“The qualification regulation of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been brought to the notice of the NANS. It is lame and nonsensical, with no forward movement plan for the Educational Sector in Nigeria.
The General Secretary of NANS Zone D, Obanobi Bidemi, did not stop there, as he went on to say this, which we quote below
“More than forty (40) million Nigerian students who are at their home and in diaspora want the JAMB registrar to define the word which says: ‘choice of institution.’
Why would I be posted to a school I never applied for? Not just any school, but a school i know is not worth my time and almost all their courses are not accredited?
The truth is that we saw this trend coming in the year 2014, and we confirmed it when the UTME board reduced the options of tertiary institution of choice from six to three, claiming it is to save students from the fraudulent activities of tertiary institutions in the process of admitting students.
Not stopping there, the NANS body decides to involve one of the country’s most powerful crime commission, EFFC
THE body also called on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence a probe into the accounts of the admission board, stating that Professor Dibu, who is the current JAMB registrar, coupled with his top ranking fellows, as it has been paid by proprietors of private tertiary institutions into turning the admission procedures in Nigeria into a play for Money.
Funnily, they disclosed that this action taken by the registrar, looks like what shook the football world, which was the scandal that rocked the world football governing body, FIFA.
THE “Nigerian students has massively passed a vote of “no confidence in the JAMB registrar” and hereby call for his immediate sack or for his self respect, he should immediately resign,”
The NANS governing body also disclosed that more than five (5) million students across the six states of the Southwest including affected students will be mobilized and will be visiting the office of JAMB, if this policy is not reversed with immediate effect.”
Not keeping silent while his “juicy” idea is been bashed by the public, the JAMB registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, speaks out, saying that the benefit of the new policy is this:
“The policy will help needy universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities have more candidates to admit.
He went on to say this which we also quotes below:
“This new policy will help all JAMB candidates who have better chances for admission in the universities they are re-assigned to, contrary to situations where they would await admission in the universities of their first choices until the admission exercise closes. Such brilliant students do usually end up, not getting admitted in that academic session.”
As a result of this new policy, the eligibility for Post-UTME screening in Nigerian universities has automatically moved and it will now totally be determined by the JAMB board, as only candidates whose names were forwarded to each university by the JAMB administration will be qualified and eligible for the school’s Post-UTME screening exercise.
Latest update from the school, is that all candidates should now re-check the jamb website to know the universities they have been re-assigned to.
