Goodnews! Latest educational information we’ve just confirmed today, is that the Nigeria senate has officially approved jamb result validity to 3 years! This means that you can write JAMB and the result will still be valid within the next three years!
According to information on my news desk, the Senate had on Thursday approved the extension of the validity of the results of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) being conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from the previous 1 year period to three years.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) were able to gather that the extension was contained in the new amendments made to the Act establishing the board.
The bill which approved the amendment of the Act was passed at plenary on Thursday, and according to NANS, the Nigerian senate said that the extension was granted to reduce the financial burden of the examination fees, such as the jamb registration fee, transport, and other fees on the candidates, their guardians/parents.
The passage of the Bill followed the report of the Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, which was chaired by Jubrin Barau (APC Kano North).
In the report, the committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund disclosed that the validity of jamb result was extended, mainly because of the financial hardship which is being experienced by parents in sponsoring their wards for the JAMB CBT examination.
On June 1, the Senate read JAMB Amendment Bill 2016 for the second time and referred same to the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund for further considerations.
One of the major purpose of the bill is to amend the JAMB Act to increase validity period of JAMB examinations from one academic year to three academic years. This bill was generated after a motion moved on the floor in November, 2015, where the senate were asked to look into this matter and increase the jamb result validity period from 1 year to 3 years.
The motion entitled “JAMB’s New Admission Policy’’ was sponsored by Joshua Lidani (From the ruling party, APC in Gombe South).
Once more, the Nigerian Senate ordered the jamb board to immediately stop its policy of re-assigning candidates to schools they never applied to, which was the jamb new policy, which really did make the 2015 registrants extremely uncomfortable.
In another development, the Bill Seeking the Establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps was deferred as members did not agree on certain terms in the bill.
One big reason why the house did not agree with the bill, which seeks to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, is because members of the senate had expressed concern over some insertions in the Bill and argued that further considerations should be stepped down for another day in order to allow the Committee on Interior to do a proper job.
The president of the Nigeria Senate, Bukola Saraki , thereafter suspended the passage of the Bill till another legislative date . (NAN) More details coming soon.
