Academic Staff Union of Universities (asuu)

Asuu Strike; History of ASUU STRIKE from 1999 till 2013

With the current ASUU Strike still looming, we decided to dig into ASUU strike history a little, and see if it’s something of a curse that ASUU can’t just stay without a strike once a year, and we were astonished to see this result.
This a just a brief History of ASUU Strike, and this is from 1999 till this year, 2013.

Just like i said, we decided to do a little research to compile a history of ASUU Strike in Nigeria since 1999 to 2013 as shown here.

And do you know what’s even more interesting?
The series of strike which we have listed below, have been experienced by all Government-owned universities in Nigeria, whose academic lecturers remained under the umbrella of the “Academic Staff Union of Universities -ASUU”.

1999 -→ 5 months
2001 -→ 3 months
2002 -→ 2 weeks
2003 -→ 6 months → (ended in 2004)
2005 -→ 3 days
2006 -→ 1 week
2007 -→ 3 months
2008 -→ 1 week
2009 -→ 4 months
2010 -→ 5 months and 1 week 2011—3 months(ended in 2012)
2013 -→ 2 months, 2 weeks, and still counting.

Now, here is a little puzzle for you, did you checkout the ASUU strike from 2001?
it features every year, so practically speaking, it’s not the President Jonathan regime that’s causing this, but not that am supporting his educational cabinet though, but it seems ASUU always have issues with Federal government, or vice versa.
