ASUP Strike 2014: ASUP May Call Off Strike Very Soon

Information reaching our news desk today, is that the Academic staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP)  which in a meeting last Monday, involving the following personnel:

  1. Federal Ministry of Education,
  2. Ministry of Finance,
  3. NBTC,
  4. NCCE..

And other relevant stake holders at the presidential Villa to resolve the protracted ASUP strike, where it was clearly stated that the Federal Government has concluded plans to pay ASUP 20.6 Billion Naira.

We were also able to gather that the editing and Adoption of Need Assessment committee Report for polytechnics and Colleges of Education by the following bodies:

  1. Committee,
  2. ASUP,
  3. Federal Ministry of Education,
  4. NBTE,
  5. NCCE

Which was done last week Friday, the report is expected to be presented this week at the Federal Executive Council meeting for approval and implementation with release of Fund required.

It’s also worthwhile that you should know that earlier this week, the Education Minister had said that the reason the prolong strike has not been called off is because ASUP has refused to accept two installments of the N40bn it demanded from the federal government.

Though since 20.6 billion represents half of N40bn, does it mean that ASUP has finally agreed to call off the strike?

This means that this works out, the 6-month strike may be called off very soon and polytechnics students all return back to school very soon.
