INFORMATION reaching our news desk today, is that the Lagos State University, (LASU) authorities has disclosed that they are making some arrangements to refund over Eight hundred an forty (N840) million to students who had paid the new fees before it was slashed by the state government.
According to the information reaching our news desk, the vice chancellor of the University, Professor John Obafunwa, who disclosed this information to our correspondent, said that the Lagos state government has decided to refund the money to the students who have paid the fees before it was reversed by the government.
Here’s the Vice chancellor official statment:
“We have already calculated the excess paid by the students. Don’t forget that even before the reversal, a lot of them had already paid for this academic session, and so far, we have calculated over N840 million Naira.
However, the VC made it very clear that this reverse will only be for this academic session. The reversal does not mean LASU will go back to where it used to be and the problems of the past. You cannot go beyond the available infrastructure. You cannot take more than what you can’t admit. I don’t see any disadvantage in the reduction of the fees, he further stated.
The VC of Lasu, John Obafunwa, also went on to explained that the reversal of the fees was not completely a decision of the university’s management, saying that it also includes the government.
According to him, he reminded candidates, saying that they should not forget that there is still the governing council and government, who are equally being involved.
He made it clear that this is a joint decision, comprising of the governing council of Lasu and the state government.
But so far, this decision is already having good recommendation from parents and students alike, praising the state government and the Lasu leadership for considering the students.
