Nigeria Universities – Polytechnics and College of Education news Nigerian Educational News | Zenith Of Educational NewsLatest educational news reaching the Dailyschoolnews Nigeria publishing desk today, is that the Academic Staff Union (ASUU) of the Adamawa State University, Mubi, have embarked on an indefinite strike to show their anger/grievances over the sacking of Twenty four (24) of their colleagues by the school management.
While speaking on the issue, the chairman of the University’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Mr Molem Ishaku, stated this in a phone conversation with the DSN Nigeria correspondent on Friday in Yola, Adamawa state.
The Chairmen said that the strike by the University was based on the directive of the union’s National Executive Council, adding that the management board had resorted to victimising lecturers over their involvement in the recent ASUU nationwide strike.
Mr Molen Isaku went on to disclosed that 24 lecturers were sacked by the Adamawa state University management board, while five others were queried too.
The ASUU chapter chairman in the varsity said that the national representatives of the union met with the management of the university on Monday and demanded a recall of all the sacked lecturers and the withdrawal of the queries to the other five.
He said that out of the 24 sacked lecturers, only 10 of the sacked lecturers were recalled, while queries issued to the others were yet to be vacated by the school management.
While reacting to ASUU’s claim, the institution’s Public Relation Officer, Mr Delmond Benson, denied that academic activities in the university had been grounded.
“Only 10 per cent of the lecturers are engaged in the so-called strike,” Benson said.
The state University PRO also disclosed that there’s no sacking of lecturers, saying that placement of some Graduate Assistants on half salary for failing to obtain their Masters degree within three years as stipulated in their appointment letters.
Benson said some of the affected lecturers who acquired their Masters degree had their full salary restored by the school board.
Also speaking on the on the issue of query given to some lecturers, Benson said that the query was issued to five lecturers that forged their Thesis.
MR Benson also went on to said that the affected lecturers are yet to respond to the queries, adding that the school management had discussed the matter with representatives of the national leadership of the union, who requested for two weeks to study the matter (NAN)
