ASUP Strike 2014 Update: Please End Polytechnic Strike, Parents Pleads With FG

After several months of the protracted strike which was embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union ( COEASU), some concerned parents in Abakaliki had appealed to the Federal Government to put an end to the situation and help their children go back to their schools and study their books.

According to information we received, the parents, who made the appeal in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki, had expressed sadness and contended that the protracted nationwide strike by ASUP, and COEASU had strongly affected academic activities in polytechnics and colleges of education in Nigeria and has put a halt to educational progress of the country.

According to report we received, the parents who expressed that their patience has been overstretched and urged the government to end the strike and help the country move forward, because if the Youths of today are not educated, what is the future of this country? some parents quizzed in.

One Mr Paulinus Okoro said and we quote him directly “I appeal to the Federal Government to act fast to end the strike in the interest of our children,” one of the respondents”. Mr Eugene Okpara one of the parents on his part, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and end the strike and this what he had to say.

“If the federal government of Today does not pay attention to polytechnic and teacher education, how do we realize our dream of becoming an industrialised nation?” Okpara asked?

Well, we hope that this strike gets called off soon and all affected students return back to their schools and studies.
