Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union on the Verge of Restoration

Latest educational news reaching us today, is that the students union transition committee (popularly known as SUTC) has been working earnestly with the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) governing body to see the timely restoration of a virile, responsible and responsive students’ union.

According to Professor Bamitale Omole, who led the administration, has approved the time-table of our dear students’ union election.
Here is the time-table of OAU students’ union election Details;
July/August
The Faculty Congresses to select/ nominate 2 Representatives.
(1 as member electoral commission and 1 as member electoral petition committee)

August:
The Orientation on workshop for members of electoral and electoral petition committees.
Nominations into electoral posts-electoral committees.
Division of student affairs meets member of electoral commission and electoral petition committees.

August

1. The Electoral guidelines for the contestants and voters Voters Education
2. Finally, the time table for elections out.

September

1. Preparations for elections:
2.  Students Tutorials lists,
3.  list of hall residents.
4. Still in the month of september, there will be screening of contestants, manifestos, debates, among others.

September
Elections:
1. Hall executive committee,
2. students representative council,
3. central executive committee.

September
A three (3) day leadership retreat.

Ooctober
Swearing in ceremony of elected members.

However, the most unanswered question today, coming from the Ife student is this:
if they can still have an INDEPENDENT and RELIABLE Students’ Union Government like before?

The truth is that we have seen series of Student Union Governments (SUG) of other varsites who are been mutilated by the school management, when proscribed only to unban them to dictate to the newly elected leaders.
We hope that this does not happen again in OAU.
