LATEST educational news reaching our news desk today, is that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially establish and lauched a new Biometric Data Technology, which main aim is to limit corpers from going absent from their post.
This decision was reach and established, in a bid to checkmate the incidences of youth corpers being absent at the weekly and monthly checks during their Youth service.
According to the Director General of the corps, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, who disclosed this vital information during the inauguration and practical demonstration of the programme at the Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
This is what he said and we’re quoting him below:
“This Biometric Data Technology is going to make sure that corps members stay in their places of primary assignment. It will reduce the rate at which they travel from one place to another and regulates them.
“This will also go a long way in helping the NYSC board core employers to benefit from the services of these corps members maximally because they will now remain in their places of primary assignment.
“We have policies in the scheme that guide absence from places of primary assignment of the National Youth Service Corps.
For example – there are certain number of times a corps member can be absent and such a corps member – in punishment – the service of such Corper will justly be extended by the board.
“We are not doing this in isolation, but this is also in line with the policies of the scheme. It is going to bring transparency and accountability into the way we do things.
Also speaking about this issue, he disclosed that his staff (NYSC workers) who have been conniving with corps members in the past will not be able to do that anymore because unless such a corps members cuts the thumb and gives to anybody to thumb print for him or her, they wouldn’t be able to cheat the system any more.”
The Director General also went further to disclosed that six members of staff were presently facing possible dismissal from the scheme after they were caught, engaging and conniving with corps members to leave their places of primary assignment.
