Minister Of EDU Says Only First Degree Holders will be Employed as Teachers

LATEST information reaching our news desk today, is that the Federal Government of Nigeria, has decided to upgrade the Nigeria educational system, and the Minister of Education in Nigeria, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has confirmed that the federal government is planning to make first degree the minimum teaching qualification in Nigeria educational sector.

Ibrahim Shekarau, who made the disclosure on Thursday, when he received the Finish Ambassador to Nigeria, Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, in his office.

The minister of education, Ibrahim Shekarau also went further, to say that the target of the federal government was to make first degree as minimum teaching qualification, noted that from 1980 the minimum teaching qualification to teach in school is National Certificate in Education (NCE).

The minister also said that this could be upped to first degree in time to come (probably later this year), as he also added that currently there are a number of graduates teaching in primary schools in the country.
