Heroes: University Students Stop Gunmen From Abducting A fellow Female Student

THREE Gunmen who invaded the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin in Kwara State, who came with the intention of abducting a 200 Level female student were stop by Some male students of the academic institution.

When we got the information, we contacted the VC of the institution, Professor AbdulKareem who confirmed the incident, who also did sustained an injury on one of his hands during the incident.

Here is what Professor AbdulKareem said when contacted: “what happened that morning was a case of mis-judgement by the authority that is supposed to be enforcing laws. Some Gunmen who pretended to be security officers came to the Al-Hikmah University and tried to arrest a female student. We (VC and other Male students) had to intervene because the students insisted that students can not be arrested from campus without letting the authorities know.

“It is very unfortunate that anybody will come to the university campus and want to make an arrest and made no effort to inform constituted authorities. Anyway, if we had not come there to address the students, I do not know what would have happened, because these men were armed.

The VC also went on to say this: “We thank God; the only person that got wounded was myself. I was trying to clear the debris that the students put in front of the vehicles.

These people were in mufti; that is what is more disturbing. If you come in uniform and you want to effect an arrest, you still need to tell the constituted authority. But to make the matter worse, when you come to the campus with plain clothes and want to arrest a female student, it is not something that the students will stomach. We call for the police and they came.”

Meanwhile, the policemen from Adewole Division upon arrival at the university arrested the armed men and later transferred them to the state police headquarters for further questioning.
