ASUP Strike Update: President Jonathan Intercedes To End Ongoing Strike

Mr. President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has brought up his intentions to end the ongoing ASUP strike. Last Monday, he commenced direct intervention to resolve grey areas in negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), after its leaders forbidden the two install mental payment options.

According to our correspondent, the ASUP President, Mr. Chibuzor Asomugha said that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike had systematically directed the President on the remaining area of dispute, which is the installmental payment of debts of allowances.

Mr. Chibuzor also said in a meeting with Mr. Jonathan last Monday, when they met alongside Presidential officials, the Supervising Minister of Education and officials of National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, and National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE and Federal Ministry of Education to finally conclude plans on the payment of the said debts.

Hence, ASUP and COEASU have demanded that the Federal Government pay the entire N40billion at once.

And also at the last meeting the Supervising Minister of Education in a offer to convince the union showed the payment schedule for ASUU earned allowances which are being settled in installments.

ASUP president also assured that the “With this development, ASUP Strike will soon be call off”.
