Spend Money on Education and Not Confab – Poly Students Complaint

It was not funny, when we saw hundreds of students , who came together under the umbrella of Polytechnics students, but from various polytechnics who took to the streets of Lagos, on Monday, the 17th of March 2014, to protest the persistent strike which was embarked upon by the academic unions in polytechnics, demanding that President Goodluck Jonathan spend the money earmarked for the National Conference on the education sector.

Reading the placard which most of the students carried, it says that the federal government should spend the money on education, rather on the National conference.

The aggrieve students, who converged at the University Of Lagos (Unilag) junction in the morning, demand immediate intervention in the lingering crisis and put a lasting stop to the currently ongoing strike, which is now 6 month old.

Some of the inscription reads,
“Spend money on education sector, not on National Conference”,
“Education is our right not a privilege”
“We say no to strike,”
“We want to go back to our classroom”

among several others.

We hope that the federal government is working towards ending this strike and things will get back to normalcy.
