Information reaching us today from the West African Examination Council (popularly known as WAEC) has it that the examination council will install from this November/December 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, and according to the top examination council, here’s what they said exactly about this calculators, which they called a “branded, non-programmable calculators and mathematical sets” which will be provided for all candidates writing its examinations.

The main aim of providing her own programmed calculator to all her candidates is because of exam malpractice, because most students think they are wiser by using programmable calculators which can store and save answers.

The Council made this known to the Nigerian general public in a communiqué, which is signed by its Head of Public Affairs Department in Yaba, Lagos, Mr. Yusuf Ari.

According to the Head of Public Affairs, Ari, the decision is one of the resolutions taken at the Nigeria Examinations Committee of the Council at its 57th meeting in Lagos. The committee is the highest decision-making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters in Nigeria.

The Committee also identified the following:
Inadequate preparation,
Rote memorisation,
Illegible handwriting,
Poor choice of questions,
Failure to answer the required number of questions,
Vague or irrelevant answers,
Inadequate division of time between questions,

As some of the problems that cause candidates’ poor performance in WASSCE.
