Nigeria Universities – Polytechnics and College of Education news Nigerian Educational News | Zenith Of Educational Newsfinally, the decision has been made, as the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT has just re-confirmed the news spreading around that the union are planning to go on strike.
The Union’s decision to proceed on an indefinite strike starting from the 1st of June 2013 in the states that are yet to implement the 27.5 percent Teachers Enhanced Allowance.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT National President, Michael Olukoya did disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja. that the union had just resolved that the strike would proceed if nothing was done at the expiration of its deadline fiven to the states government.
and according to NUT National President, Michael Olukoya, the states are
Benue State,
Cross River State,
Abia State,
Ebonyi State,
Enugu State,
Ekiti State,
Osun State.
While other affected states are:
Ogun State,
Oyo State,
Edo State,
Nasarawa State,
Zamfara State,
Plateau State,
Taraba State,
Borno State,
Kogi State,
Niger State
Sokoto state.
The President also said that the decision of the union to embark on an indefinite strike was taken on 17 April at the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Asaba in 2008.
The NUT President also said that the Senate Committee on Education had on 23 May invited the union officials and the governors whose states were yet to implement the allowance to a meeting over the threat by the union.
The President also said that the meeting with the Senate Committee on Education was stalled, adding that the committee had called on the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, to plead with the affected state governors to comply.
“Also, some of the state governors are yet to implement the N18,000 minimum wage, which was approved by the Federal Government.
and according to the NUT President, he disclosed that as for them the teachers in the NUT, the strike is the only remaining option left for them now.
He said that they have been very patient since 2008.

Its so unfortunate! my only concern is the helpless children whose parents cant aford to train in the private schools. What?Is it a crime to be a primary school teacher? What is actualy their offense against politicians? In Benue,for instance, they dont get paid until after every three months, no promotions for the past ten years now,children still sit on bere floors and under tree shades to learn, the Gov. Said he dont care who goes on strike, etc. why shouldnt they emback on the strike action? Imagine the untold hardship. The destiny of the children will be on the governments hands. Think of this: your own primary school headmaster may still be riding that old bicycle you know him with.
What is NUTpresident doing to reach those governor by themselve not sendin any body?
