JAMB RESULT 2013: Eighty Two (82) Candidates Arrested by NSCDC Over Exam Malpractice

We just recieved and have also confirmed an information being sent to us, regarding the news flying around, that 82 Candidates were arrested by NSCDC Over Exam Malpractice.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ogun State Command, confirm the News last weekend, saying that they had arrested about 82 candidates of the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in the state for alleged involvment in examination malpractices.

The JAMB 2013 examination, which was held last Saturday in about 108 centres across the state, however, recorded no violence or dead.
According to the State Corps Commandant, Mr Aboluwoye Akinwande, in a statement released by the Command Public Relations Officer, Kareem Olanrewaju, said that the candidates were arrested from different centres across the state for cutting corners during the examination.

Mr Akinwande also disclosed that, about 30 candidates were arrested in various centres in Abeokuta, while 9 other candidates were arrested in Ewekoro local government, while others were arrested at Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU centre, and Molusi College in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, some of the candidates were caught using their phones, while others were in possession of prohibited materials like books, palm tops, Scientific calculators among others.
The Corps will take appropriate action on the candidates caught cheating.
He also said that the first thing is that they have been made to fill relevant forms.
Investigation will be conducted, that will determine their culpability and then we can decide on their trial.
He also disclosed that necessary information about them have been collected.
Apart from the arrest, no violence was recorded in any of the 108 examination centres in the State.
The large number of arrest recorded was as a result of effective coverage by Civil Defence.
They were taken by surprise as they thought it was business as usual.
The Corps will continue to do its best at all time to ensure examination malpractices are reduced to the minimum, and they also plan to eradicate it entirely from the educational system.
According to him, the Corps will continue to appreciate the support of candidates, parents and other stakeholders, the Corps Commander discloses.
