According to the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olawumi, had this morning released an official statement explaining the reason why, the March allowance to Youth Corps members have not been paid.
Here is his official statement
To all my dear Corps members, l sincerely apologize and regret the late payment of your March allowance. To help you understand the main reason why you are experiencing late Payment of your March paymant/allowance, for avoidance of doubt, your allowances do not come to the NYSC as the NYSC scheme has no account with the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The payment comes from the Federal Government of Nigeria, once it is approved by the Federal Ministry of Finance, it goes to the Central Bank account from where it is disbursed directly to each and every corps members account.
This is the beauty of the Treasury Single Account created by this administration, and that explains why you get the whole allowance in full without any charges from your banks. However, we are looking for solution to this problem, because we are liaising vigorously with the Ministry of Finance, so that the fund is released to the CBN GIFMIS account and once it is done, It takes the NYSC management, less than an hour through the online platform to remit the funds straight to all the 244,532 Corps members currently in service.
The Brig. Gen also disclosed that they are equally mounting enough pressure on the Ministry of finance to make sure, that the April allowance for the 2015 Batch A and the outstanding one month allowance for Stream 2, Batch A 2015 is also paid as quickly as possible, so that this issue won’t repeat itself.
The main reason why the NYSC management decided to release this statement, is to clear the rumor, making it’s round on social media, that the Scheme is holding Corps members allowance.
